ROOT CANAL RETREATMENT

Teeth that have had root canal treatment can function as well as any other tooth in your mouth, and can last a lifetime. However, there are situations where a tooth that has had a root canal can start to cause you pain or discomfort, or can become re-infected. If this happens your dentist may recommend the root canal be redone (called a ‘root canal retreatment’).

There are many reasons why a root canal may need to be redone. Decay can get under a filling or crown, re-infecting the root canal space. There may be extra canals in your tooth that were not adequately disinfected. Or, unique tooth anatomy such as extra long or curvy roots may have made your tooth difficult to clean completely.

If your dentist has recommended a root canal retreatment, the doctors at Florida Root Canal Specialists will evaluate the tooth, review your options, and will make the appropriate recommendations. Every tooth is unique. Your doctor will let you know the status of your tooth and whether root canal retreatment is a good choice for you.
