APICOECTOMY

When a tooth with a root canal causes problems, a retreatment of the root canal system will often recommended. However, there are cases where retreatment is not possible or advisable. Teeth with fragile crowns or long posts can be difficult or impossible to retreat. For such teeth, a surgical procedure may be a wonderful alternative to save your tooth.

Root canal surgery may sound scary, but it will be performed painlessly and very often with minimal to no discomfort following the procedure. This procedure is used to directly remove the infected root tip and infected tissues surrounding the root, thereby allowing the area to begin to heal.

To perform this surgery, your doctor at Florida Root Canal Specialists will make a minimal incision thru which the infection at the end of the root can be removed. Because of their small size and precise location, these incisions heal remarkably quickly. Occasionally one or two sutures may be placed to assist with more rapid and comfortable healing, the care of which your doctor will review with you.

Your doctor will schedule a follow-up visit within a week to ensure that your gums are healing properly and to remove any sutures.
